Property News - Estate agents 'irritating residents'

Homeowners in Walthamstow are becoming increasingly irritated by the estate agents using For Sale and To Let signs purely for cheap advertising.

Waltham Forest News Online reports that a number of readers have now submitted letters to the Guardian complaining about the practice, with many boards staying up long after a property has been rented or sold.

The law specifies that estate agents are only allowed to display their boards for 14 days after the completion of the rent or sale contract, but this is evidently not stopping some agents.

Albert O'Neil was one of the readers to protest about these signs, with Bulwer Road in Leytonstone the area of annoyance.

"The To Let signs have been permanently put up there by estate agents. They have been screwed to the wall," he said.

"They are a real eyesore for the area and bring the place down."

Advertising a property in this way is clearly frustrating for local residents and it has become increasingly common across the county.

The news in Walthamstow follows just weeks after the BBC Whistleblower programme that exposed the corrupt activities of a series of estate agents in London.
