Hips industry standards

The Association of Home Information Pack Providers (AHIPP) has announced that it will publish a code of practice for all suppliers to sign up to.

As the government will be regulating all home inspectors, who will be producing Home Condition Reports (HCRs), AHIPP believes regulating the whole Home Information Pack (Hip) will be highly beneficial for the consumer.

People looking to purchase a Hip from any official supplier will be given a stamped and certified document from AHIPP which demonstrates that the company is signed up to governing body's code of practice.

Mike Ockenden, director general of AHIPP, stated: "The government has already announced that they will be regulating all home inspectors - we are now taking this a step further to provide a voluntary code of practice for pack providers too.

"All members of AHIPP will be subject to stringent standards to ensure consumers purchasing a pack through one of our members can place total confidence in the finished product."

The AHIPP code of standards will be certified by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT).

As the AHIPP website states, "love them or loathe them" Hips will be coming into force on June 1st 2007.
