Landlords are now able to make possession claims and track the progress of claims online, HM Court Services (HMCS) has announced.

Landlords are now able to make possession claims and track the progress of claims online, HM Court Services (HMCS) has announced.

The system has been designed for those who rarely or infrequently need to make a repossession claim, such as residential landlords, and has been piloted over the past year.

Court fees can be paid online and claims are issued immediately, along with a date for a court hearing. Both claimant and defendant can track the course of the claim online.

"Possession Claim Online is putting the needs of courts users first - it's about accessing justice in a more efficient and convenient manner," said HMCS chief Sir Ron De Witt.

"The service is more convenient for users as it means that they can make their claim online and it is issued immediately, with a court date automatically scheduled."

County courts in England and Wales issued more than 260,000 possession claims last year.
