Having sound legal and financial advice is the most important factor in making a success of the buy-to-let market, a survey for the Heritable Bank has claimed

Having sound legal and financial advice is the most important factor in making a success of the buy-to-let market, a survey for the Heritable Bank has claimed.

Talented and reliable managing agents, estate agents, accountants and architects were also all essential components of a successful buy-to-let support team, said landlords.

Good handymen were also cited as important, while local councils were irrelevant. Price growth potential was the most important issue when planning a purchase.

"No-one can build a successful portfolio without the right support in key areas, and it's interesting to see which services property investors depend on most," said the survey.

"Clearly, it's not an either-or call between sound financial and legal advice and reliable on-site craftsmanship.

"The most successful investors bring together the most experienced, best value team across all areas for long-term portfolio success."
