Property News - Anti-Hips rhetoric mismatches policy says association

The industry debate on the merits of Home information packs (Hips) has rumbled on with a message that the system does not pose a threat to the property market

The industry debate on the merits of Home information packs (Hips) has rumbled on with a message that the system does not pose a threat to the property market.

Former head of the National Association of Estate Agents Trevor Kent stirred the 'no' vote this week with a warning of "meltdown" and a call to agents to unite against the proposals.

The rhetoric was not consistent with the association's policy however, leader of the 'pro' camp Mike Ockendon of the Association of Hips Providers (AHIPPs) has said.

"The NAEA, along with ourselves and surveyors are currently in the process of producing an in-depth implementation guide for Hips, which we plan to make publicly available in the near future," said Mr Ockendon.

"We understand that the NAEA feels compelled to continue its campaign against Hips, we are confident that they are now facing the reality that as of the 1st June, Hips are happening.

"It is in the best interest of both their members and the consumer to ensure that the industry is ready."
