House buyers have given Home Information Packs (Hips) a warm welcome in the areas where they are being trialled, the professional association backing the system has said

House buyers have given Home Information Packs (Hips) a warm welcome in the areas where they are being trialled, the professional association backing the system has said.

More than 700 packs have been commissioned since the trials began in November, said the Association of Home Information Pack Providers (AHIPPs).

More than 60 per cent of buyers requested voluntary Home Condition Reports (HCRs), rising to around 90 per cent in some areas, it added.

HCRs, which shift the burden of surveying a property from buyer to seller, have been the most controversial aspect of Hips and will remain voluntary after the national launch.

"The reality is Hips are happening and we have seen clear indications that more businesses are now taking steps to prepare," said Paul Broadhead of AHIPP.
