Landlords are upbeat about their 2007 prospects, research for broker Paragon Mortgages has shown, with almost 40 per cent predicting that their portfolios will increase in value

Landlords are upbeat about their 2007 prospects, research for broker Paragon Mortgages has shown, with almost 40 per cent predicting that their portfolios will increase in value.

Another half believed that their assets would remain stable and less than one in 12 landlords said that they expected the value to fall.

"Landlords are confident that the buy-to-let market will continue to prosper in 2007 and beyond," said John Heron of Paragon Mortgages.

"Both through capital appreciation of their existing portfolios and new property acquisitions, landlords expect their portfolios to increase in value by 2.6 per cent in 2007.

"Existing landlords know that the social and demographic factors driving growth in demand for rental properties will continue unabated and their expectations for the next 12 months reflect this."

Despite a rate rise in November the number of buy-to-let investors predicting increased portfolio value rose from 35 per cent last quarter to 38 per cent in January.
