Property News - "Greedy" estate agents criticised in survey

A new survey has concluded that resentment of estate agents is at an all time high, as consumers become increasingly unhappy with the amount of their assets they have to hand over in commission to them.

A new survey has concluded that resentment of estate agents is at an all time high, as consumers become increasingly unhappy with the amount of their assets they have to hand over in commission to them.

The survey, by independent agents Wow, saw respondents among the 2,200 questioned labelling estate agents "greedy" and "smarmy", while two-thirds of those answering the survey used the term "wide-boy" to describe them.

Nearly a quarter, when asked how they remembered their estate agents, made reference to shiny suits and hair gel.

In addition to this, two out of five resented paying fees to them and a third thought estate agents only cared about getting their money, while just six per cent described them as easy to relate to.

Nick Wright, managing director of Wow, told Life Style Extra: "People have had enough of the huge sums they are having to hand over to estate agents.

"The cost of selling or buying a home is getting ridiculous."
