Property News - Neighbours 'a factor' in buying decision

Neighbours 'a factor' in buying decision

Homeowners looking to sell their properties could fail to attract buyers because of the state of neighbouring properties, new research suggests.

Homeowners looking to sell their properties could fail to attract buyers because of the state of neighbouring properties, new research suggests.

According to a survey of house hunters by Legal & General, the appearance of the neighbourhood in general is important for many buyers.

Almost nine in ten (89 per cent) of those questioned said that they would reconsider buying a property if the neighbouring properties were not up to scratch.

The neighbours themselves were also cited as an important factor by many respondents.

"Property is one of the major investments we make and with more people struggling to get on the property ladder the research would indicate that we are still very fussy about where we want to live," commented Ruth Wilkins from Legal & General.

"Who we may be living next door to is now a key consideration. It is interesting how much influence our neighbours can have on this key investment decision."
