Poor energy efficiency ratings for most houses

Posted: 26 Sep 2007 10:45:39 GMT

Most homes in England and Wales are receiving low scores on their Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs).

Most homes in England and Wales are receiving low scores on their Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs).

That is according to The Partnership, which says that the highest grade being seen so far is 'C'.

The EPC is included in the Home information pack (Hip) which has been a mandatory part of the home-selling process for properties with three or more bedrooms since September 10th.

According to The Partnership, Hips are doing their job by highlighting the problem and a spokesman for the firm points out that sellers and agents are not happy about low-scoring properties.

"The vast majority of houses are coming out at the bottom end of the scale. Our best houses are coming out with a 'C' rating," he said.

"Even though the agents have laughed it off, there is definitely a feeling that you don't want to have a bad grade.

"There is something they are unhappy about when they get a 'G' rating," continued the spokesman.
