A Home Information Packs (Hips) expert has spoken about the importance of energy efficiency in the home to kick off this year's Energy Saving Week.

A Home Information Packs (Hips) expert has spoken about the importance of energy efficiency in the home to kick off this year's Energy Saving Week.

The event, which starts today, aims to raise awareness of how saving energy within the home can not only help the environment but also keep household bills down.

Mike Ockenden, director general of the Association of Home Information Pack Providers, said: "This week's focus on saving energy and climate change is very timely with our own awareness campaign on the importance of the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) as part of the Hip.

"Currently 27 per cent of all carbon emissions come from our homes and we have an obligation to reduce this.

"The EPC will help to significantly reduce carbon emissions and help families cut their fuel bills."

He added that the certificate will also provide homeowners with information and tips on the best ways to make their homes more energy efficient.

Last week, the Home Builders Federation also spoke of ways to reduce your carbon footprint such as converting a garage into an office and working from home.
