Buy-to-let remains successful

The UK buy-to-let market has been successful and will remain so in the future, according to the Association of Residential Lettings Agents (Arla).

Demand for rented accommodation remains high, said the organisation, putting landlords in a favourable position.

Despite some commentators raising fears that falling house prices and the global credit crunch are impacting the buy-to-let market negatively, Arla pointed out that people who make sensible investments can still see good returns.

"There is a strong demand for the private rented sector and there has been for a long time," commented Malcolm Harrison, spokesman for Arla.

"The rented sector always sees more demand when house prices soften and that has always been the case.

"It is very much a safe market provided that people take the right advice, have done their sums right, and asked local letting agents what the local markets wants," he added.

Arla recently revealed that demand for rented accommodation is at a five-year high.
