Professional tenants attractive to landlords

Most landlords prefer having professional tenants because they are able to pay more rent.

Most landlords prefer having professional tenants because they are able to pay more rent.

That is according to Property Hawk editor Chris Horne, who said that professionals are more likely to make additional demands but are also willing to pay for them.

Further to this, many landlords are also attracted to professional tenants because they are confident that they will be able to keep up with their monthly payments.

"I suppose it's the fact that professional tenants have got steady incomes, and generally have higher wages than non-professional tenants… it assures landlords that they're going to keep on getting their rent," commented Mr Horne.

"With professional tenants, they tend to be able to pay a little bit more rent, and they're often looking for slightly better accommodation.

"They demand extra - things like broadband connections et cetera - but in return for that a landlord can often charge a premium rent," he added.

Mr Horne also pointed out that he expects demand for rented accommodation to remain strong in 2008 as potential buyers adopt a 'wait and see' approach to entering the market.
