Buy Association, a property website, pointed out that property prices may rise as a result of the improvements.

Paul Collins, spokesman for the site, recognised that some people may have reservations about the airport's success, which saw a 23 per cent increase in passenger numbers between 2006 and 2007, but pointed out that the hub is not on the same scale as some of London's major airports.

"London City Airport is a bit of a different one because it's very much an urban airport and has always been right in the middle of residential areas so there aren't any huge planes that use it," he commented.

"It's very much a business airport so it's only really private jets and smaller aircrafts. So the disruption is fairly minimal… the noise isn't that bad.

"The transport infrastructure in the area is improving hugely… so it's more of an advantage than a really bad thing," continued Mr Collins.
