Property News - Brighton enjoying "stability" in the housing market

Londoners that are looking to downsize as a result of the credit crunch are choosing the south-east as it offers buyers "an attractive place to live".

Londoners that are looking to downsize as a result of the credit crunch are choosing the south-east as it offers buyers "an attractive place to live".

That is the view of Charlie Snell, director of Brighton and Hove Family Homes, who has said that the seaside town is enjoying a period of stability.

Mr Snell said: "I think that Brighton will continue to be a bit of an economic bubble in that it's an attractive place to live and whatever happens elsewhere, downsizing and downshifting Londoners will move to Brighton."

Brighton had, according to Mr Snell, experienced falling house prices in the last couple of months as homeowners became concerned about selling their properties.

Prices have now stopped falling and, the estate agent believes, the demand from Londoners will "keep property prices [in Brighton] high, if not stable at the least".

According to a survey conducted last month (May) by Halifax, the south-east of the country offers the best quality of life.
