'Kid's digs' are 'adding value' for those looking to sell property

Homeowners who are keen to add value to their property before selling it may want to consider building a wooden chalet in their garden.

The so-called "Kid's digs" provide grown-up children with a place to live and are described by a company who make the chalets as a "very sensible way" to add value to a property.

Commenting on how much value the structures added to a property, Richard Sharman, director of Custom Timber Build, said: "I can't give you a figure in terms of percentages but any improvement, addition or alteration that adds value is going to be beneficial and this sort of building certainly does that."

In July 2008 there were a number of reports in the press of parents opting to purchase the £40,000 chalets for their children.

Mr Sharman said that whilst the chalets may not be suitable for all homeowners, for those that needed the additional space, it offered "an ideal solution".
