Home sellers 'must be realistic'

People putting their homes up for sale need to be sensible about their prospects if they are to have any success.

That is according to BuyAssociation - a company providing free advice on domestic and international property sales - which urged prospective sellers to quickly identify their target market.

Paul Collins, property editor at the firm, suggested that homeowners need to be "quite ruthless" with themselves and "really look at what else is going on in the market".

"I think people need to be very realistic," he said. "You need to identify who is going to be buying your property, what they are looking for and what it is about your property that is really going to attract them."

In this way, homeowners will be able to pick out and highlight the things about their properties that will make them "really attractive" to potential buyers, Mr Collins concluded.

Recently, the National Association of Estate Agents claimed that many homeowners looking to sell their properties are struggling because they do not understand how tough the current market actually is.
