Property News - Rental sector 'should be supported and expanded'

The private rental sector should be encouraged to expand by offering buy-to-let investors and other private landlords the chance to benefit from more government assistance, one industry expert has argued.

James Davis, founder and chief executive at online rental property portal upad.co.uk, has argued that both tenants and landlords would see better standards of operation in the marketplace if the market expanded.

"We need to attract landlords into the market place rather than push them away," he explained.

Buy-to-let investors are already suffering from falling house prices and a low demand for property, meaning their investments are decreasing in value.

Those hoping to sell may have to drop their asking prices significantly, but selling a property online could lead to a quicker sale and includes no need for expensive estate agent fees.

Selling a property online could lead to a far wider range of buyers viewing any property, which will no doubt make up some for some of the value lost in the current marketplace.
