Property News - Buying property 'still high' on Brits' agenda

Recent research from financial advice website MotleyFool.co.uk has found that the choice to buy property is still an attractive one for a large number of Brits.

When asking 1,000 adults what they would do with a £50,000 windfall, the website discovered that the largest proportion of respondents still believed that buying property would be the best bet.

Published today (March 27th), the figures show that almost a third (30 per cent) of Brits would invest their windfall in property, compared to just 26 per cent who opted for shares and 17 per cent who saw bonds as the best option.

David Kuo, director at MotleyFool.co.uk said: "One of the best ways of ensuring our money holds its value is to invest in assets that can beat inflation.

"Traditionally, these have been shares and property."

The decision to invest in property could be due to the falling house prices, which are offering first-time buyers massive discounts compared to those buying property even 12 months ago.

The actual ability to buy property, however, has been restricted by the rising costs of mortgage deposits, which have priced many first-time buyers from the marketplace.

First-time buyers determined to enter the housing market could take advantage of the chance to buy property online, which can cut expensive estate agents fees.
