Changes to Hips 'won't slow process down'

The soon-to-be implemented changes to Home information packs (Hips) will not have a detrimental effect on the process, it has been asserted.

Lesley Sorridimi of Hiphiphooray.com said that the new rules may mean that it takes a little while longer to get a property on the market.

However, she said that once up for sale, the actual buying and selling of a home could in fact be dealt with faster as a result of the changes.

She explained that sorting out a Hip can bring up various issues, such as discovering that a property is not registered. As such, Ms Sorridimi said that it will likely be a good thing that all homes will soon need to have a Hip before they are put up for sale.

"It is probably the best time," she commented. "If this was a very buoyant market where houses were flying off as soon as they came on you would be challenged.

"However in the current market this is a perfect time for having the information up front."

The changes to Hips will come into effect as of April 6th, 2009.
