Property News - AMI claims budget does not go far enough

The Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI) has suggested that yesterday's (April 22nd) budget announcement did not go far enough to support house buyers.

In dire need of support through various different avenues, the property market was propped up somewhat by yesterday's budget, but the deal would not do enough to give the sector the kick-start it needs, said the AMI.

Focusing on the stamp duty, Robert Sinclair, director of the organisation suggested that abolishing the tax and not just offering a temporary break from paying it would lead to a more robust market.

"The extension of the stamp duty holiday is a sensible step but a bolder decision would have been to abolish stamp duty altogether," he said.

"We really need more long term thinking to encourage buyers back into the housing market."

With the market having been stagnant for some time now, selling a house can prove to be an extremely lengthy process.

As such, selling a home online could speed up the process as a greater number of potential buyers may see the property advertised.
