Property News - Mortgage market 'should be offered assistance' from government

The government needs to offer more to Brits struggling with the current mortgage market, a report from the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI) has suggested.

In a statement, the AMI wrote that the chancellor Alistair Darling's upcoming budget should include ways of helping those mortgage owners with high loan-to-value rates as well as those looking to purchase a house this year.

Calling on Mr Darling to provide a solution to the stagnation of the mortgage market, Robert Sinclair, AMI director, said: "We are now waiting for the chancellor to grasp the tiller and provide direction for the UK mortgage market and help the thousands of ordinary people trapped by the continuing lack of liquidity in the mortgage market."

The current stagnation of the mortgage market has meant that many homeowners have failed to sell their home in a timely fashion.

Those still trying to find a buyer may wish to try selling a home online, which could attract more house hunters to a property.
