No positive property news 'until 2010'

The majority of Brits questioned recently said they believe it will be 2010 before any green shoots are seen in the property market.

Research from unbiased.co.uk has found that over half (58 per cent) of Brits surveyed felt that 2009 will not see any rise in confidence in the property sector.

Despite the bleak outlook reported, however, 28 per cent of Brits are now considering purchasing a house.

Furthermore, a quarter of this number are now holding out as they believe they will be able to pick up better bargains in the near future.

This could be good or bad news for homeowners trying to sell their home online, as it could mean a greater number of buyers entering the market, although such buyers may be likely to drive a hard bargain.

A statement from unbiased.co.uk regarding the research said: "The public mood suggests the balance of power remains firmly with the buyer.

"Half (50 per cent) of the UK population feel they would be able to squeeze a vendor to drop their asking price by 15 per cent or more due to the current climate, and 30 per cent feel they could push for at least a 20 per cent reduction."
