AHIPP adds to Hip price debate

The Association of Home Information Pack Providers (AHIPP) has moved to clarify a few issues surrounding the cost of home information packs (Hips), which have now been part of the home-selling process for nearly two years.

Property vendors need to get hold of Hips and there are "numerous fee options", according to the national body for the packs.

Consumers are encouraged to shop around for the best deals and the Hip prices that best suit them, AHIPP stated.

Some Hip providers include the fee for the material in the overall price charged for selling the property in the first place - it is up to the person selling a house to decide which package they opt for.

AHIPP chose to comment on the issue in response to a Channel 4 investigation into the price of Hips, and said it is up to individual Hip providers to tell vendors what the charges are going to be before a deal is arranged

Commenting on the Channel 4 investigation, AHIPP said: "The implication that the retailer's price can never be higher than the cost of the goods supplied is to misunderstand the nature of commerce."
