Property News - Interest in property returns in spring

Spring has heralded an upturn in property market interest, according to the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA).

The organisation's Housing Market Survey for April indicates that confidence in the sector is returning.

By analysing the average number of people registered at UK estate agents over the last two months, the NAEA has concluded that the industry is retaining it buoyancy.

Estate agents had an average of 265 people registered with them last month, which was down on March's figure, but considerably up when compared with the last 12 months.

In a statement, the association said: "It is clear that there has been a resurgence of interest in the property market, probably reflecting both an increased confidence in the future of the market and a belief that house prices are bottoming out."

Land Registry figures for March show that property in England and Wales sold for £152,895 on average in March 2009 - down 16.2 per cent year-on-year.
