North-east residents show pride in home

Halifax Home Insurance has released new research which suggests that people who live in the north-east of England are most proud of home.

Almost three-quarters of those who are from the region show pride in where they are from, the survey said.

Close behind in the most-proud standings were residents of Wales and Northern Ireland.

Things which made people happy about the areas where they live echoed the elements many home movers consider when looking for new property.

These were proximity to loved ones, being able to feel safe in their surroundings and having easy access to amenities.

Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager at Halifax Home Insurance, remarked: "Not only is safety in an area a top reason for feeling regional pride, it is also [a high] priority for most people when deciding where to live."

He also, like financial search engine Tescocompare.com did earlier this week, called for people to take out the relevant home insurance for their properties.
