Property News - Property owners issued a home improvement warning

UK property owners have been issued with a home improvement warning ahead of the forthcoming bank holiday weekend.

Many people are expected to undertake some form of DIY in the next few days, but AA Insurance has advised those who do so to be careful.

Apparently there is often a surge in insurance claims following a bank holiday weekend, as home improvers cause damage to their houses.

The finance firm suggested that 38 per cent of Britons will do some form of DIY during their extended break, and urged them to take out the relevant cover.

Simon Douglas of AA Insurance said: "We always see an increase in claims for DIY disasters after bank holiday weekends. But less than half of home contents policyholders have an accidental damage extension, which means that many claims wouldn't be met."

HSBC recently advised those looking improve their properties ahead of selling them that loft conversions and room extensions add most value.
