Property News - Amateur landlords advised to research thoroughly

Amateur landlords in the UK looking to make a buy-to-let property investment should make sure they conduct thorough research before purchasing a property, it has been suggested.

According to the editor of Property Hawk website, Chris Horne, investment in this type of bricks and mortar is "all about research".

This advice should be heeded by "any new landlord" contemplating such a move, the property expert explained.

Mr Horne said: "[Landlords need] to do their research about what type of property they are buying, where they are buying, [as well as] making sure that there is enough rental demand."

With Citizens Advice reporting earlier this month that there are three million households currently in the private rented sector, new landlords should be aware it is a competitive sector.

Indeed, the Property Hawk editor indicated that a number of amateur landlords have lost out financially when buying homes in new blocks where competition from more experienced professionals has existed.
