Best firms for mortgages acknowledged

The best companies for mortgages were recognised at an awards ceremony last week.

Legal & General Mortgage Club Awards saw Halifax Intermediaries voted as the Best Lender for Intermediaries and BM Solutions acknowledged as the Best Lender for Buy-to-let Products.

These prizes were presented at the end of a week when the Bank of England revealed that mortgage approvals in May were up month-on-month and year-on-year - at a total of 43,200.

The Guildhall in London was the venue for the evening, which included a special speech from the Sunday Times economics editor David Smith.

Votes are cast by the 8,000 mortgage brokers which make up the club's membership and they base their opinions on lending activity over the previous 12-month period.

Ben Thompson, director of mortgages at Legal & General, congratulated Halifax Intermediaries and said they offered a "strong showing this year".

"It's been an extremely difficult 12 months, but these lenders are showing that they can do well by maintaining very high standards," he added.
