Buy-to-let 'to change' as sales sector picks up

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) has suggested that the buy-to-let sector will see a number of changes in the coming months, as property selling activity picks up.

According to the group's spokesperson Jeremy Leaf, landlords have been on the wrong side of the bargaining process when it comes to rent due to the flooded private rented sector.

But there will be a different situation in the coming months as those renting out their homes opt to put them back on the sales market.

Mr Leaf remarked: "Property transactions are starting to rise from very low levels and the influx of supply in the rental market has slowed as vendors begin to find buyers."

Landlords will soon be able to benefit from downward pressure on rents as a result, and a strong demand for property remains.

Earlier this month, editor of Property Hawk website Chris Horne said that buy-to-let investors should view the buy-to-let game as a long-term investment vehicle.
