Property News - Landlords see rents stabilise

The buy-to-let market has seen rents stabilise in recent months, as well as a "significant increase" in the supply and demand of property.

At least that is the view of Richard Bowser, who is editor of the monthly magazine Property Investor News.

He indicated that there has also been anecdotal evidence to suggest consumer confidence is returning across the UK.

This, he said, is in "sharp contrast" to the early stages of this year.

"Many letting agents have been busier and, of course, that has put pressure on actual market rents," Mr Bowser explained.

The south of England was highlighted as a region where rents have stabilised, compared to earlier in 2009.

Mr Bowser's comments follow this week's publication of The Young Index third-quarter index, which reported that 30 per cent of buy-to-let investors were aiming to increase their portfolios by buying property outside of London.

This was an increase of six per cent on the first three months of the year.
