Property News - Latest property selling figures released

The National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) has released the latest selling figures for individual estate agents in the UK.

Its May housing survey has reported that the average branch in the country sold ten properties during the month - the same number as April, but a 30 per cent increase year-on-year.

Apparently, the average agent had 299 home hunters on its books. This number was 34 more than the previous month and 52 higher that May 2008.

President of the NAEA Gary Smith said there are "buyers a-plenty" on the market at the moment.

"With mortgage interest rates at historically low levels and prices now far more realistic than in previous years, homeownership in the UK seems to be set to lead the way out of the recession," he added.

Last month, NAEA chief executive Peter Bolton-King said his group always knew that people's desire to buy houses had not disappeared forever and suggested that low sales figures were down to a period where confidence disappeared.
