More focus on improving property

More people in the UK are making the decision to make their house a home, it has been suggested.

Clare Barrett, editor at Grand Designs Magazine, said that a higher number of people are conducting home improvement projects in their properties.

She explained that summer is the time for DIY and indicated that it was encouraging to see more people were making this kind of property investment.

Although big changes can make a difference to the selling price of a home, it would appear that many people are doing the work for their own satisfaction.

More homeowners are choosing to make their home better, rather than "seeing [a] property as something that is a bit of a cash cow", explained Ms Barrett.

Sainsbury's Home Insurance research from earlier this year found that 65 per cent of British adults had attempted DIY tasks in the previous year.

Home building projects were attempted by seven per cent of people, the survey noted.
