Property News - More properties selling, says Rics

The average number of properties sold during the past three months rose to 11.8, according to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics), which was up from the previous figure of 10.6.

Rics' research also found that the number of chartered surveyors reporting an upturn in buyer enquiries increased in May - with almost 50 per cent reporting a rise rather than a fall.

It indicates that now could be a good time to act for those thinking of selling their homes, especially as the news follows Agency Express' revelation that more people sold property last month than at any other time in the last 12 months.

Ian Perry, spokesperson for Rics, said: "On the face of it, the housing market does appear to be close to bottoming out with activity picking up in a material way and prices at last stabilising."

However, he explained that an uncertain economic backdrop, rising unemployment and a short supply of first-time buyers are three of the obstacles faced by the industry in the coming months.
