Around 1m first-time buyers waiting for property

There are an estimated one million first-time buyers waiting for affordable property to be made available in the UK, according to PricedOut.org.uk spokesperson Katy John.

It is important the government follows through with its pledge to build three million new homes by 2020, the campaign group representative explained.

Ms John said that the government needs to keep its promise to construct more properties and ensure they go to the consumers who need them the most.

"We urge the government to continue building more homes for those people currently requiring decent housing," she stated.

Her comments follow the government's publication of the Building Britain's Future plan on Monday.

The document revealed a target to invest £1.5 billion over the next two years on producing 20,000 new energy-efficient and affordable homes, as well as creating 45,000 jobs.

One other long-term government plan is to ensure all properties in the UK are fitted with smart meters to gauge energy usage by 2020, the Department of Energy and Climate Change announced in May.
