Property News - HBF applauds government's property-building initiatives

The Home Builder's Federation (HBF) has applauded new government measures which will see the construction of some 20,000 new homes within the next two years.

Steve Turner, the organisation's head of communications, suggested that the Building Britain's Future plan may not be a quick-fix to ease the pressures of the economic downturn, but it recognises "the importance of housing to the economy".

He said that new housing projects address a social need for homes and the economic need for new jobs in the house building sector.

"It is pleasing that money has been diverted from other sectors of the economy to assist housing output which has clear benefits socially and economically," Mr Turner stated.

Under the Building Britain's Future plan, which was published on June 29th, the government pledged a £1.5 billion investment towards the construction of 20,000 energy-efficient homes during the next two years.

It is estimated that the project could create 45,000 jobs.

A further £1.2 billion investment in housing will be made this year - including £500 million which will be used to support local housing construction projects.
