Property News - Nationwide house prices consistent with Rics' data

Nationwide Building Society's latest survey on house prices has a number of similarities with recent Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) research, the organisation has claimed.

Both Rics' monthly survey and the building society's index have noted an increase in property-buying interest in Wales, while the geographical breakdown as a whole apparently made "interesting" reading.

"London and the south-east were amongst the firmer areas in the second quarter, a result that is broadly consistent with the regions that have seen the strongest gains in buyer enquiries according to the monthly Rics survey," said the chartered surveyor group.

Yesterday's news from Nationwide that average property prices in the UK grew in June to £156,442 - the third rise in four months - was welcomed by Rics.

However, with the year-on-year comparison still down 9.3 per cent, the change was described cautiously as the "least worst reading" for 11 months.
