Top-end houses 'making more than ever'

Some individual top-end houses are making more money "than ever before", according to the director of a property consultancy.

Robert Pritchard of Smiths Gore noted that the prime country market has "improved immeasurably" within the past three months and some individual homes are "making a lot of money" - especially when compared with the same period in 2007.

He explained: "I wouldn't say that it particularly works across the board, but if you are at the very top end where it is individual houses ... then those people are driving the market upwards."

Mr Pritchard made his comments following the release of a new report from Savills last week, which noted that prime regional residential property had stabilised in value during the second quarter of 2009.

On June 29th, figures published by Hometrack indicated that overall, the volume of home buyers in the UK has increased by 36 per cent since the beginning of the year.
