Property News - EST says no to sales of energy inefficient property

Selling energy inefficient property should not be permitted, according to the Energy Saving Trust (EST).

Likewise, the group suggests that landlords should not be allowed to rent out homes that do not fit certain criteria regarding energy efficiency.

A spokesperson for the organisation said: "Since last October, all homes that are on sale or up for renting must produce an Energy Performance Certificate which rates the homes energy efficiency from A-G ratings."

The EST is advising the government that any property rated from F to G should not be able to go on the rental or sales market, she added.

Work across the UK has been ongoing to improve the energy efficiency of homes to reduce the property industry's impact on climate change.

Kirklees council in Yorkshire is one example as it has created 120 jobs through insulating 21,000 homes in the region.
