FTBs 'most in need of advice on mortgages'

First-time buyers (FTBs) sought advice on issues to do with mortgages more than any other type of home loan customer in June, it has been revealed.

According to professional advice website Unbiased.co.uk, 41 per cent of all consumer requests on its 'Find a mortgage adviser' search during the month were from those looking to buy their first property.

People who wanted to remortgage were the second most frequent users of the service, the site claimed, while customers seeking general residential mortgage advice made up 24 per cent of the marketplace for Unbiased.co.uk.

With the number of Britons looking for advice on remortgages growing by five per cent month-on-month, it was the largest growth area.

David Elms, chief executive of Unbiased.co.uk, commented: "These latest figures suggest a stirring amongst those thinking about re-mortgaging, after the previous two months drop in re-mortgage enquiries."

Last month, the Council of Mortgage Lenders indicated that gross mortgage lending in June was an estimated £12.3 billion - a rise of 17 per cent on May's £10.5 billion.
