Property News - Students 'paying more for rent'

The average money UK students require for rent and accommodation has increased over the last year, according to new research.

Halifax has found that the average sum spent per week is £77.20, compared to £74.70 in 2008.

Property and rent is the area students spend the majority of their cash on each week, the study indicated.

With university-goers spending more on places to live, it could mean that student landlords are receiving higher rents than last year.

Indeed, lodgings in the east of England appear to be the most expensive with students paying an average of £98.30 every week in this region.

University of East Anglia students and alumni are among those who need property to rent in the east.

When taking into account complete spending patterns, Halifax said that the average student's weekly expenditure has increased by five per cent between 2008 and 2009.
