Property News - Landlords 'concerned about cash flow'

More than one in five landlords in the UK are concerned about their cash flow at present, new research suggests.

According to a study by insurance firm Direct Line for Business, almost one in six buy-to-let professionals have changed their payment terms in recent times.

Furthermore, nearly one in ten landlords are cancelling their insurance to save money during the economic downturn.

Kate Syred, head of Direct Line for Business, said that although the government's recent moves to offer more tenant protection in the event of repossession is to be commended, people living in rental homes may still end up without roofs over their heads.

"High numbers of landlords [are] cancelling insurance policies to save money," she added.

Earlier this week, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors released research showing that there are fewer rental properties coming on to the market, which is "good news" for landlords as there will be less pressure on them to reduce rents.
