Property News - London, West Midlands 'show strong house price growth'

London and the West Midlands registered the strongest growth in property prices during August compared to other regions of England and Wales, according to the latest data from the Land Registry.

Both areas saw property prices increase 0.8 per cent month-on-month, with the average cost of a home in the capital judged to have been £310,640 and the typical West Midlands property worth £131,305.

Overall, the study indicated that the average house price in England and Wales was £155,968 in August - down 0.1 per cent on July's figures.

A statement from the organisation said: "All regions experienced a decrease in their average property values over the last 12 months."

It added that the most significant annual price drop - a movement of -12.7 per cent - was witnessed in the north-west.

These figures come after Halifax revealed the average price of a UK property in the same month was just over £160,000.
