Survey shows UK's confidence in property investment

Some 45 per cent of people in the UK think that property investment provides better returns than other savings and investment vehicles, according to a recent survey from Scottish Widows.

The research also showed that 48 per cent of consumers believe that buying property is a good investment and that bricks and mortar can withstand an economic downturn - up from 28 per cent who felt the same 12 months ago.

In response to the report, partner at Bloomsbury Financial Planning Jason Butler said that people should not "back one horse" when it comes to making money and building their assets as there is no such thing as a 'best investment'.

However, he admitted: "If people feel comfortable with [property] and they can rationalise it then they will have a propensity to want to invest in that over and above other investments."

Mr Butler also warned that the property market can rise and fall depending on the borrowing options available, which means investors should proceed with caution.
