Property News - Rogue landlords 'need to be uncovered'

Unscrupulous landlords in the UK need to be clamped down upon, according to the National Landlords Association.

Chairman of the group David Salusbury has suggested that the sector's name is often tarnished by incidences of bad private rented practice.

He said: "We know that most landlords are professional, business-orientated individuals, but we also know that a small minority of rogue operators continue to bring the entire sector into disrepute."

As such, the NLA is working with the charity for single homeless people, Crisis, to urge the Conservative Party to address matters that will improve the industry.

A publication dubbed New Directions for Renting: A New Vision for the Private-Rented Sector will be launched at the Tory party conference in Manchester today (October 7th), urging policymakers to offer further access to sustainable accommodation.

In general, the two organisations want the Conservatives to deliver a new vision for the private rented sector.

Meanwhile, the latest figures from the Council of Mortgage Lenders show that 21,600 new buy-to-let mortgages were advanced during the second quarter of 2009, indicating that the decline in new landlords slowed compared to previous quarters.
