Advice issued to MPs who rent

With many MPs potentially set to become tenants in rented property in the coming months following changes to their second home allowance, the National Landlords Association (NLA) has issued some tips and advice regarding the private rented sector.

MPs are advised not to rush into picking the first home they see as it is important to undertake extensive research.

A statement from the NLA also indicates that MPs - as well as the millions of other renters in the UK - should insist on receiving a written tenancy agreement, which details all the important financial commitments that are being made.

Furthermore, the guidance from the association claims that is useful for tenants to stay in regular contact with landlords and problems should be raised as soon as they occur.

NLA chairman David Salusbury said that renting property "could well help to broaden MPs' understanding of the contribution the modern private rented sector makes to the country's housing mix".

Landlords themselves will be able to gain tips and guidance during this month's NLA National Conference, which takes place in Birmingham between November 20th and 21st.
