Property News - Home sellers 'no longer decorate to appeal to purchasers'

Potential house sellers are now more interested in personalising their property than performing hasty home improvements that will appeal to estate agents, according to House Beautiful Magazine.

Julia Goodwin, editor of the magazine, says: "The days of just a quick tart-up to sell, make money and move on are long gone."

She goes on to state that people are deciding to stay in their homes for longer and susequently the days of painting everything beige to make the property attractive to an estate agent have "disappeared forever".

Ms Goodwin advises that more people are now decorating in a way that appeals to them rather than a prospective purchaser.

According to the editor, energy efficiency is also now an enormous issue for homeowners.

Some 70 per cent of those living in London plan to undergo home improvements in the next year, with 14 per cent of people refurbishing to a high standard in order to help sell their property.
