Property News - Upcoming election causing 'increased optimism in housing market'

This year's upcoming general election is contributing to greater confidence in the housing market, one expert has stated.

Jane Marr, company director at the Little House Company, says: "The anticipated result either way may be the reason for increased optimism."

Her comments come in response to recent statistics from Rightmove, which reveal that consumer confidence in the property market is growing.

Some 53 per cent of people questioned expect house prices to rise in 2009.

Ms Marr explains that trust in the UK housing industry is "catching" and figures such as this will help those who are thinking about buying or selling their homes to put their plans into action.

She believes that house prices will reduce slightly as more properties come on to the market but this will in turn make homes in Britain more affordable.

According to Rightmove, the average asking price for a UK home currently stands at £222,261.
