A good tenant 'a very valuable thing to have'

It has been suggested that handling tenants in a sympathetic manner can be of benefit to landlords in the long run as a good renter is a "very valuable thing to have", according to one expert.

Tessa Shepperson, solicitor at LandlordLaw.co.uk, says that landlords should make allowances for tenants who are experiencing financial problems, particularly during the recession.

She adds that if they are accommodating to tenants who are facing difficult circumstances then they will be grateful and more likely to look after the property in the long run.

"If you kick them out, you don't know who you are going to replace them with," she states.

According to new research by easyroomate.co.uk, the number of landlords who are looking to evict their tenants has fallen by 11 per cent since the third quarter of 2008.

With the number of unemployed people in the UK currently standing at 2.46 million, it could be that many tenants are relying on their landlord to do them a favour during this difficult time.
