Property News - House price rises 'not welcome for first-time buyers'

Young people and first-time buyers are not encouraged by hearing reports of a "booming" housing market, one expert has suggested.

Katy John, spokesperson for PricedOut.org.uk, says that the major political parties need to recognise that economic stability is just as important as economic recovery.

"They [young people] want to see that more homes are being built and that there is going to be longer term stability and some kind of return to normality in the housing market," she adds.

Ms John went on to state that whoever wins the upcoming general election needs to address the link between economic stability and affordable housing.

Her comments come in response to a recent report from the National Housing Federation, which revealed that the number of pensioners living in rural communities in Britain will increase by almost one million over the next ten years.

Some one in four of the rural population will be over 65 by 2020 but communities will not be able to support the boom in the number of older residents unless more affordable housing is built for families and younger people, the report revealed.
